KS1 Weekly Newsletter – Friday 16th October

This week we have all been busy writing our own stories. We have also started to paint our imaginary pets. We hope you have an enjoyable weekend.

Big Talk

On a Friday a question / picture / activity will be available for you to discuss with your child over the weekend, having already been introduced at school. When your child returns to school the discussion will continue further and then a piece of writing will develop. Due to the present regulations we are not able to have pieces of paper leaving and returning to school for this so we hope that through discussion the children will be able to develop their ideas.

Next week we are going to be reading lots of different animal rhymes. In class today we have read, used expression and acted out the rhyme ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. On Monday we would like you to retell this rhyme – writing it down and illustrating it.

Reading

As mentioned in our letter at the beginning of this week, on a Tuesday and Thursday we would like the children to access books on Oxford Owl.

Next week please could the children have a look at ‘Silver Foil Rocket’ and ‘Toads in the Road’.

Children on the AR program will continue to select reading books from the school library on a Friday. As soon as they have read a book please can they return it so that they can quiz on it. Some year 1 children will gradually be introduced to this program.

Maths

Work has been set onto Mathletics (for year 2 children) and Maths Seeds (for year 1 children).

Spelling

The following rules need to be practised at home and will be tested in school each week when the children will be asked to write a sentence which is dictated to them. This will consist of some of the words below but will also include some additional words with the same rule. In addition there are the challenge words – again some of these will be tested.
